New self-guided route explores the Estate’s centuries-long connection with four-legged companions

Dog owners looking for a new walking destination will soon have a historic option: Blenheim Palace is launching a dedicated trail designed specifically for visitors and their canine companions.

The Dogs of Blenheim Palace Trail opens on 1st February 2026, offering a self-guided circular walk that takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. The route features 10 illustrated interpretation boards and follows an established Estate path from the Oxfordshire Pantry, looping back to Flagstaff Gate.

Visitors can scan QR codes on the trail boards to access an online map, with pawprints guiding them through the route. Dogs must be kept on leads throughout.

A Palace with Pedigree

The trail delves into the historic relationship between Blenheim and its dogs, most notably the Blenheim Spaniel—a breed developed at the palace in the 18th century for hunting and companionship. The route also explores connections between dogs and famous residents, including Winston Churchill and members of the Marlborough family.

Along the way, walkers will pass notable landmarks including the Column of Victory, Grand Bridge, Rosamund’s Well, and the Boathouse, while learning about the Estate’s wildlife habitats and sheep-grazing practices. The boards feature historic photographs of Blenheim Spaniels alongside images of modern-day dogs enjoying the parkland.

Practical Details

The dog-friendly East Courtyard allows visitors to grab refreshments from the Oxfordshire Pantry before or after their walk. Water bowls are available near Flagstaff Gate to help dogs cool down after their visit.

The trail reminds visitors to keep dogs on leads, particularly in areas where wildlife, livestock, and ground-nesting birds may be present.

The Dogs of Blenheim Palace Trail is included with a Palace & Gardens Ticket or Valid Pass.
