Families looking for a meaningful and engaging February half-term outing will be able to step back into Britain’s wartime past when Eden Camp reopens with a special programme of Home Front–themed activities.

The modern history museum, located at the site of a former Second World War prisoner of war camp in North Yorkshire, will run its half-term programme from 16–22 February 2026, offering hands-on experiences designed to bring everyday life during the war vividly to life.

Visitors can explore Eden Camp’s 22 original huts, each preserved from the 1940s and now housing immersive exhibitions that chart Britain’s wartime experience—from the realities of the Home Front to life on the front lines. The museum’s interactive displays run daily from 10am to 5pm, allowing families to explore at their own pace.

A key highlight for younger visitors is the Dig for Victory–inspired cress workshop (daily, 12–1pm), where children can paint their own plant pots while learning how wartime Britain turned gardens, parks, and even rooftops into vital food sources. The activity links creativity with social history, showing how ordinary households supported the national war effort.

Meanwhile, military history enthusiasts can attend Tank Talks in the Heritage Hall (daily, 1–3pm), featuring engaging discussions on small arms and armoured vehicles and the role they played in shaping combat during the war.

Alongside the half-term activities, Eden Camp is offering 30% off Season Passes for visitors who book before 31 January. Discounted prices bring adult passes to £42, child passes to £37.80, and family passes to £168, providing year-round access to the museum.

For those planning a single visit, Eden Camp is also encouraging advance online booking, with reduced admission prices compared to paying on the day. Pre-booked adult tickets cost £17 (rising to £20 on arrival), while child tickets are £15 online and £18 on the day. Concessions and family tickets are also available.

Luke Hudman, Marketing Manager at Eden Camp, said the February opening is something the team is particularly excited about.

“We’re thrilled to be opening specially for February half term,” he said. “Our talks and workshops really capture the spirit of the Home Front, and it’s a fantastic opportunity for families to learn together while having fun.”

Visitors can also refuel at Winstan’s Café, which offers family-friendly meals and snacks, and browse the on-site gift shop for wartime-inspired souvenirs, replicas, and memorabilia.

Eden Camp, near Malton, is the only remaining prisoner of war camp in Britain, originally built in 1942. Its preserved huts now tell the story of The People’s War—the social history of Britain between 1939 and 1945—and include a recently introduced Blitz experience. The museum welcomed over 100,000 visitors in 2023 and hosts more than 25,000 schoolchildren annually as part of its educational programme.

The site has benefited from significant restoration funding and continues to receive national recognition, having won Best Educational Day Out at the SME Northern Enterprise Awards for the third consecutive year.
