Passengers traveling through Heathrow Airport this December will hear a familiar voice over the Tannoy system—England rugby star Ellie Kildunne, who has been named the airport’s first-ever “Voice of Britain.”

The World Cup-winning Red Roses player will share festive messages with more than 200,000 passengers daily throughout December, marking the launch of what Heathrow plans to make an annual tradition celebrating public figures who have made outstanding contributions to UK culture.

Kildunne’s appointment comes after a stellar year that saw her help England win the Rugby World Cup this autumn, represent Team GB at the Paris 2024 Olympics, and earn the title of World Rugby Women’s Player of the Year in 2024.

Record-Breaking Christmas Travel Expected

Heathrow is anticipating over 7 million passengers this festive season—its busiest Christmas on record. On Christmas Day alone, more than 160,000 travelers are expected to pass through the airport’s four terminals.

The top destinations for December include New York, New Delhi, Doha, Dublin, and Dubai, while winter wonderland seekers can fly direct to Copenhagen, Salzburg, or Munich.

Kildunne’s self-written announcements will play across all terminals, offering personal reflections on home and family alongside practical travel information. In one message, she shares: “Christmas, for me, is about family—reconnecting, recharging, and remembering what really matters. This Christmas I’ll be spending mine with my Mum, Dad and brother.”

From Yorkshire to International Recognition

Since making her England debut at age 18, Kildunne has become one of the most recognizable figures in British women’s sport. Playing for both the Red Roses and Harlequins Women, she’s known for her attacking prowess and leadership both on and off the pitch.

Her recent achievements include winning multiple Six Nations titles and scoring a crucial try in the World Cup final that helped secure England’s victory.

“I’m honoured to be involved in the festivities at Heathrow this year,” Kildunne said. “Whether passengers are reconnecting with loved ones or stepping onto their holiday flight, I’ll be on the Tannoys bringing the Christmas cheer for all.”

Daniel Edwards, Director of Services at Heathrow, said the partnership aims to “add a unique seasonal touch to the airport experience” and help travelers get into the Christmas spirit from the moment they arrive.

Heathrow’s Tannoy system is one of the most widely broadcast in the world, reaching over 84 million people annually. The airport has hearing loops installed across all terminals to ensure announcements are accessible to passengers using hearing aids.
