Virgin Atlantic is transforming London’s popular winter ice rink with a travel-themed takeover that brings elements of its airport lounges to the heart of Somerset House.

Opening November 12, Skate at Somerset House will feature a pop-up “Clubhouse” lounge where visitors can warm up with destination-inspired cocktails and food typically found in Virgin Atlantic’s airport facilities. The partnership marks the finale of Somerset House’s 25th birthday celebrations.

The centerpiece is a 40-foot Christmas tree decorated with baubles and ornaments representing destinations including New York, Las Vegas, and Grenada, designed to evoke the souvenirs travelers collect on their journeys.

Airport Lounge Meets Ice Rink

The temporary Clubhouse at Somerset House takes design inspiration from Virgin Atlantic’s newest lounge in Los Angeles, which opened in March. Located rinkside, the space offers visitors a chance to experience the airline’s hospitality without visiting an airport.

The drinks menu features cocktails themed around Virgin Atlantic holiday destinations, including a Mexican margarita inspired by Cancún, an “Escape to Grenada” rum cocktail, and an Empire Espresso Martini evoking Manhattan. The airline’s signature Redhead cocktail and Bloody Mary will also be available, along with English sparkling wine from Hambledon and teas from Twinings.

Food offerings include items from Virgin Atlantic’s lounges, such as truffle parmesan popcorn and a limited-edition Bloody Mary flavored crisp. Dessert features a cherry pie ice cream created by Northern Bloc, inspired by Virgin’s early balloon flight ventures.

The Clubhouse includes a VIP seating area, a display wall showcasing Virgin Atlantic’s design history, and a photo booth for visitors.

Caribbean Night on Ice

On December 4, the venue will host a special Grenada-themed evening, transforming the ice rink with steel drum music, carnival colors, and Caribbean cuisine. The event will showcase the island nation known as the “Spice Isle” for its nutmeg and cinnamon production.

Annabelle Cordelli, Senior Vice President of Brand and Marketing at Virgin Atlantic, said: “Christmas is a time for creating memories with loved ones, and we believe holidays are the best way to make them last. This year’s ‘bringing the world home for Christmas’ theme celebrates those moments that make every journey unforgettable.”

Skate at Somerset House has been a London winter tradition, and this year’s partnership with Virgin Atlantic Holidays marks one of the venue’s most extensive brand collaborations.

Tickets for Skate at Somerset House are available through the Somerset House website.
