As Valentine’s Day approaches, Heathrow Airport is gearing up for a romantic surge of international travel, with couples set to explore some of the world’s most romantic destinations.
The airport anticipates a significant increase in passengers, with a 12% rise in North American travel and a 17% jump in New York-bound flights compared to last year. European romantic hotspots like Vienna, Venice, and Reykjavik are also expected to see nearly 20% more passenger traffic.
In a unique insight into love and travel, Heathrow turned to its own love experts – security officers Bilal and Hira Messahel, a real-life couple and expectant parents. The couple shared five essential tips for couples navigating airport travel:
- Plan ahead by checking in early and saving electronic boarding passes
- Arrive well-rested to maintain a positive mood
- Pack carefully, keeping essentials and gifts organized
- Communicate effectively with each other and airport staff
- Allow extra time to manage potential travel challenges
The airport is not just facilitating travel but celebrating love in its own way. February marks a particularly romantic month for Heathrow, which receives an impressive 3,471 tonnes of flowers – 1,000 tonnes more than any other month.
For those looking to commemorate their journey, heart-shaped selfie frames will be available in all terminals on February 13 and 14, offering couples a chance to capture their pre-flight memories.
“The airport can be overwhelming,” says Hira Messahel, “but with the right approach, it can be the start of a wonderful adventure together.”
Whether jetting off to New York or exploring the romantic streets of Venice, couples can look forward to a smoother travel experience with Heathrow’s expert advice.
