Emery Walker’s House Reopens, Showcasing Rare Private Press Books

Hammersmith’s literary and artistic gem, Emery Walker’s House, is set to welcome visitors this spring with a fascinating new exhibition and a series of intimate tours that promise to transport guests back to the heart of the Arts & Crafts movement.

Opening on March 1st, the museum will debut a captivating display titled “Printing Partnerships: Emery Walker & the Private Press Movement,” which explores Walker’s pivotal role in typography and printing. The exhibition will highlight Walker’s significant collaborations, including his renowned friendship with William Morris and the legendary Kelmscott Press, as well as his complex partnership with Thomas James Cobden-Sanderson at the Doves Press.

Considered the best-preserved Arts & Crafts home in Britain, the house is a treasure trove of artistic heritage. Visitors will be surrounded by an extraordinary collection of Arts & Crafts treasures, including outstanding textiles, embroideries, and one of the world’s largest in situ collections of Morris & Co wallpapers.

The museum is offering limited guided tours on Thursdays and Saturdays, with two time slots available at 11am and 1pm. Each tour is restricted to just eight visitors, ensuring an intimate and immersive experience. Special tours this spring will include daytime textile tours and atmospheric evening candlelit tours, allowing guests to explore the historic home in unique and memorable ways.
