The British Motor Museum has announced a new Young Artists Competition to run alongside its prestigious Gallery 2025 exhibition, offering emerging talent a unique opportunity to showcase their work in a professional setting.

The competition, focusing on the theme of ‘The car and the environment,’ will accept entries in three age categories: under 11s, 12-16 years, and 17-20 years. Winners will see their artwork displayed at the Museum from May 29 to June 27, 2025, as part of The Gallery 2025 exhibition.

Each category winner will receive a valuable prize package including a half-day workshop with an established artist from the exhibition and £50 worth of art vouchers, sponsored by Peter Mitchell, Patron of the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust, and LifewithArt respectively.

“The Young Artists Competition is a wonderful way to encourage artists of the future and help them begin to fulfil their creative potential,” says Stephen Laing, Head of Collections & Engagement at the British Motor Museum. “Displaying their artwork alongside established artists is an enormous opportunity.”

The competition coincides with the opening of The Gallery 2025 on April 4, which will showcase works from some of the UK’s leading automotive artists, including John Ketchell, Keith Woodcock, and Emma Capener. The exhibition, a collaboration with Historic Car Art, will feature both paintings and sculptures, with artists working in various media from acrylics to pastels.

Rupert Whyte, Historic Car Art owner, noted: “We are pleased to be working alongside the British Motor Museum for a third year to curate an exhibition of motoring art celebrating the depth of talent amongst British automotive artists.”

Young artists have until April 28 to submit their entries, with the February half-term and Easter holidays providing ample time for creation. The competition will be judged by a panel including Whyte and Laing.

The exhibition and competition entries can be viewed with standard Museum admission, with family tickets available from £46 when booked in advance. The Museum offers annual passes at no extra cost for those who choose to donate their entry fee.

For aspiring young artists interested in entering the competition or visitors wanting to learn more about The Gallery 2025, details can be found on the British Motor Museum’s website.
