A stunning piece of 1930s architecture is about to become London’s most exciting new entertainment destination. The former Granada cinema in Walthamstow, with its spectacular Art Deco interiors inspired by Spain’s Alhambra Palace, reopens this May as Soho Theatre Walthamstow after an ambitious restoration project.

Visitors to this magnificent venue will find themselves transported back to the golden age of entertainment while enjoying thoroughly modern programming. The Grade II* listed building, which has been lovingly restored to its former glory, features ornate decoration by Theodore Komisarjevsky, making it worth a visit for the architecture alone.

The new venue includes four distinctive bars – the Main Foyer, Ziggurat, Cross Hall and Circle – each offering a unique atmosphere, plus a restaurant serving locally-sourced fare. Theatre-goers can even sample the venue’s own beer, Neon, brewed specially in partnership with Adnams and East London Brewery.

Perfect for an evening out, the inaugural season includes comedy from household names like Dara O’Briain and Sara Pascoe, while families can look forward to a spectacular Christmas pantomime, “Aladdin & The Magic Lamp.” The 960-seat auditorium provides an intimate setting despite its size, and the building’s rich history – having hosted everyone from The Beatles to Chuck Berry – adds to the atmospheric experience.

For those interested in the building’s heritage, guided tours will be available, and a special two-day film festival in June and July will celebrate Walthamstow’s contribution to cinema history. The venue is easily accessible from central London, located just minutes from Walthamstow Central station.

Local residents can take advantage of special £15 tickets throughout the first year, but visitors from further afield will find the regular pricing competitive for London entertainment. Pre-show dining options and the multiple bars make it possible to spend an entire evening under one spectacular roof.

Tickets for the opening season go on sale January 30th, with booking available through sohotheatre.com. Whether you’re planning a special night out or simply want to experience one of London’s most beautiful entertainment venues, Soho Theatre Walthamstow promises to be a memorable addition to any London itinerary.
