London City Ballet, newly revived after a 30-year hiatus, has announced an ambitious 2025 season featuring three UK premieres and the return of international star Alina Cojocaru as guest artist. The company will perform at Sadler’s Wells Theatre on September 13 and 14, ahead of a major international tour.

In a significant coup for the company, New York City Ballet’s artist in residence Alexei Ratmansky will personally work with LCB to revive his acclaimed 2014 work “Pictures at an Exhibition.” The season will also mark the UK and European premiere of George Balanchine’s “Haieff Divertimento,” performed with special permission from the prestigious Balanchine Trust.

Artistic Director Christopher Marney has crafted a program that bridges classical and contemporary dance, including a revival of Liam Scarlett’s National Critics Circle-nominated “Consolations & Liebstraum” from 2009. The season will also feature new works, including an untitled piece by Paris Opera Ballet’s Florent Melac.

In a forward-looking move, the company has announced a two-year partnership with rising choreographer Tasha Chu, who will create new works for LCB over the next two seasons. This commitment to nurturing new talent reflects the company’s mission to honor its heritage while pushing the boundaries of contemporary ballet.

The announcement marks another milestone in London City Ballet’s remarkable resurrection. The company, which closed in 1996 after serving as Sadler’s Wells’ resident company and counting Diana, Princess of Wales among its patrons, was carefully revived in 2023 under Marney’s leadership.

Performance Details:

  • Saturday, September 13: 2:30 PM and 7:30 PM
  • Sunday, September 14: 2:30 PM
  • Venue: Sadler’s Wells Theatre
  • Tickets: On sale to the public from February 5

A full UK, European, and North American tour schedule will be announced in the coming months, signaling London City Ballet’s ambitious plans to reclaim its position as a major force in international dance.
